Together these  components are the elements that all visual creators utilize to design, develop, describe and  execute  in the making of any creative work. What makes drawing, graphic design, photography, painting, video and other 2D disciplines have the ability to prompt our attention?  Each discipline has the ability to produce objects that effectively communicate ideas visually in culture.  The design principles + concepts delivered in SA132 have a direct impact on visual applications available in all media, discipline and area of concentration including: Fashion Design, Interior Design, Studio Art, Photography and Visual C

PROJECT V: Knit Pixel Portraits > Gridded SELFIES

Following Rachel Turdo's successful solo exhibition in the Deacon Student Gallery, a workshop was organized with the VC Senior to lead a class on PhotoShop pixelation with the   students RACHEL TURDO WORKSHOP Visual Communications Cazenovia College Class of 2018 in her words.... PROCESS: PART ONE Bring a photo into Photoshop Overlay a grid   –> For knitting, determine size of grid first as it will affect the size of the finished piece.  Pixelate the photo to line up with the grid   – Filter > Pixelate > Mosaic.  You can play with the cell size to get the boxes to line up with the grid. PART TWO From here you have a pattern, but it's still a bit color confusing and needs to be color blocked.  Sometimes I color block right in Photoshop.  I use the eyedropper tool to select a color and then the brush tool (square) to paint in the grid using the photo as a starting point, blocking out chunks of color.  I print this simpli

final project ::    the designer as creator Finding inspiration  from everywhere and anywhere!  The potential can be sought out in all things. The hard thing is allowing our minds to open up for their consideration.   Objective Throughout the semester you have created works that have fit the guidelines of project specifications, while applying your own sense of uniqueness to your independent compositions. For the final assignment, you will be applying the knowledge of the visual elements, concepts and applications we have employed throughout our class together to create a self designed and directed final project. Your final work will demonstrate a thorough understanding of the visual language we have employed and the application of a number of the design concepts in your work.  You will develop an  original plan  based on or combining any of the previous project techniques to create your own distinctive final project.   This will be completed with a mi
